.3 Course

The Course Briefing

Course briefing 9.30am at start line.

A verbal course update and hazard brief will be given on the start line at Glendhu Bay Holiday Park (The Camp) at 9.30am

The Course

The course follows the format of the C2C (sprint/bike/run/Kayak/bike) but with a few different options. We have a swim leg as an option to the Kayak, a MTB ride instead of another road ride and the transitions are all in the same place.

The distances are all .3 of an existing event in the country.

The Transition Area

  • Bikes to be on racks prior to the race briefing at 9:30am.
  • A plastic box is recommended for transition gear beside your bikes (Needed for individuals only).
  • Kayaks can be positioned ready on the lake edge, between the markers.
  • Important: Only the next leg team member or individual competitors will be allowed in the transition area and they must stand by their allocated number and touching the bike rack before being tagged and heading off on the next leg.

The Disciplines

Leg 1. 900 mtr Run/ Sprint:   (.3 of Coast to Coast sprint - Christchurch)

Approx 4 minutes

Leg 2. 40 km Road Cycle: (.3 of the Around Lake Brunner race - Greymouth)

Approx 1.15 hr

Ride from Glendhu Bay into town, Turn right into meadowstone drive and 1st right again into Kelliher Drive. Follow this around to Old Station Ave, riding back toward Mt Aspiring Rd and then left out onto Mt Aspiring Rd again and head back out, pass the camp to the Treble Cone turn around. Then back into the camp transition area.

Leg 3. 11.5 km Off Road Run:

Approx 60 minutes

SCENIC off-road run from and back to Glendhu Bay camping ground. Follow the new track toward Wanaka. Cross the road near the Mt Aspiring view sign onto an undulating 4X4 track on the side of Roy's Peak, cross the road again after about 3 km and go through Damper Bay (this part is on private farm land and can not be used prior to race day, sorry)Then turn left back along the new millennium track to the camp ground.

The course will be marked where necessary with road cones.

Leg 4. 6km Kayak or 1.9km Swim (.3 Twin River Kayak race - Marlborough)

Approx 50 minutes  (equal distance to time ratio, the swim will be about 1.9 km to accommodate wetsuit transition time)

Kayak from the Glendhu Bay lake front to a buoy at the western end of Parkins Bay and back.

or

Swim from Glendhu Bay around bouys in a trainagular course finishing back at the start point.

Leg 5. 16 km Mountain Bike (.3 Not So Big Easy - Wanaka)

Course change likely details to be advise in October. Last years description below.

Approx 1.3 hrs

Ride from the camp ground up the Mototapu Rd for a few kms then after you cross the Fern Burn stream turn right at a farm gate and through and around private farmland, to the top of Glendhu Bay Hill. This is all on a 4x4 farm track.

A long fast descent brings you back down to earth opposite the Diamond Lake entrance. Trun right here heading back to the camp along the road 3-4 km back to camp. The course is not technical but on narrow 4X4 tracks, with a good climb to the top of the hill and a very fast descent.

This is mostly private farm land so no public access is allowed outside of race day, sorry.  It makes for a better adventure on the day--the essence of mountain biking.

TO FINISH:

As MTBers enter the transition area they are to go through a small chute to the right, drop their bikes and run the 100 meters around the outside of transition area into the finish chute and across the finish line........AHHHHHHHHH that man deserves a DB.
